Summary of Week 13

Sophia's thirteenth week was from July 25- July 31
This will be the last weekly post I do...I will be just doing monthly updates from now on. :)
Mean muggin' on our walk.

Weight: I weighed her this week and she is 14.5 lbs according to our scale.
Holy cheeks!
Health: This week, I noticed Sophia had a little blister on the inside of her bottom lip.  Of course I noticed it during bath time the night before I was supposed to go back to work.  I googled around and think it was probably a nursing blister.  It didn't seem to bother her any and it's since almost gone away.

Sleep: We started doing cry it out (CIO) this week.  I didn't really feel comfortable doing it before now and I wanted to wait until she was at least 12 weeks old to start. We did it on Wednesday a little bit and then Matt did it on Thursday.  We talked about it and since I will be taking Sophia to work with me on Mondays and Tuesdays we abandoned CIO. It's not really feasible for me to do it with her when I have her at work, so we decided to keep on what we have been doing and give her about 15-20 mins if she wakes up in the middle of a nap to see if she will soothe herself back to sleep. Most of the time she will make noises halfway through her naps, but she is able to fall back asleep. If she isn't able to fall back asleep, then we go in there and give her the paci.  This has worked pretty well for us and she is starting to get a lot better at self-soothing! In fact, this past weekend, we had two days of perfect naps where we didn't even have to go in to her room at all!

Development/Social:  This week, Sophia had her first play date! She was very excited, as you can see in the video below.  We met up with Danielle and Melissa and their babies Jase and Hollis.  Jase was born exactly a week after Sophia and Hollis was born about 3 weeks after.  It was so fun to see these three together.  Although we weren't able to get all three together for a picture, I know that there will be many play dates in our future!  It will be so much fun when they get a little older and are able to interact more. It will be so fun to watch these three running around after each other. :)

Diet: Still doing great with nursing.  I just love that time with her so much. They are such sweet moments that I will cherish and remember forever.  At our play date, Danielle and Melissa were telling me that they used a Boppy while they were nursing.  The few times I had used it, I was still putting her in a cradle hold and then using the Boppy.  They suggested that I lay her straight down on the Boppy instead and doing that a couple of times has increased her nursing time. Plus it frees up both hands!

Clothes: Starting to transition into 3-6 month clothes and starting to grow out of some of her 0-3 month clothes.

Baby Gear Loves:  Things we use on a daily basis and couldn't live without include the Medela pump, Halo sleep sacks, Sleep Sheep, Baby Einstein activity mat, bouncy chair, Chicco Travel System, Summer Peek Plus monitor. I'm sure there are some that I have forgotten.

Likes: Her O-Ball and Sophie the giraffe, people talking to her, bouncy chair, bath time, and SLEEP!

Post Partum: I started back to work on August 1st.  Like I mentioned, I landed a new gig that is super close to home (I can go home for lunch!) and that allows me to work from home some and also bring her in to work with me.  Between my work schedule and Matt's off days, we have been able to avoid daycare or having to have anyone other than Matt and me watching her during the work week, which makes me a happy Momma!!

Summary of Week 12

Sophia's twelfth week was from July 18- July 24

Weight: I would probably guess somewhere in the 14 lb range.
Health: It looks like Sophia was going through another wonder week this week, which mainly affected her sleeping and eating.  Other than that, we still have a healthy and happy baby girl on our hands!

Sleep: Sophia's naps were a little off this week, but not too bad. She is on the same schedule and still sleeping at night from about 9:30 until 7:15 or so.

Development:  We are still waiting on some sweet giggles and for that first roll over.  Sophia likes to "plank" whenever I put her on her stomach for tummy time.  I keep telling her that's not going to help her much!  She still loves to "talk" and coo if anyone is talking to her.  She also will smile at everyone!  She has also really found her hands this week. She is much more interested in them and loves to chew on them.  A couple of times she has gagged from stuffing them too far in her mouth. haha...she'll learn!

Diet: We drastically dropped our nursing times this week.  She went from nursing for about 18-20 on one side to about 7-10!  I was worried that she wasn't getting enough during the day and would start waking up at night again hungry, but she didnt! She is also super distracted while nursing. She will eat non stop for about 6 minutes and then will start looking around her room at the different things on the wall. She loves to push down on my lap with her feet when I'm burping her, too.
Sophia and Grandpa
Clothes: I am starting to stock up on some 6 month essentials because I have a feeling she will be needing them soon! Some of her 3 month sleepers are starting to get a little short on her.  Usually, Carters brand are the first to go because they seem to fit her a little small.  The Target brand runs a little big for her, so those last a little longer.
Sophia and Grandma!

Likes: Looking around, her activity mat, going for walks, Mommy and Daddy....le duh!

Post Partum: I am still feeling great! Other than my hair falling out like CRAZY! I am coming up on the end of my maternity leave. :( Luckily, I was able to find another job that is literally 5 mins. down the road from me.  It was sad leaving some of my coworkers, but I was commuting 1.5-2 hrs ONE WAY while I was pregnant and there was no way that I could do that now.  So I am SO thankful for this new blessing!

Summary of Week 11

Sophia's eleventh week was from July 11- July 17

Weight: I would probably guess somewhere in the 13 lb range.
Health: We tried a new diaper brand this week (Up and Up from Target) which started to give her diaper rash, so we went back to Pampers swaddlers.  I think since the Pampers pulls the wetness away from the skin, it doesn't give her diaper rash like the other brands we have tried.
Sleep: She is still doing great on the 3.5 hour schedule.  She typically has one or two naps a day that she wakes up halfway through, but the others are pretty good.  I watch her and as soon as I see those first couple of yawns, I start to put her down.  I swaddle her while saying "shhhhhh" and turn on her Sleep Sheep while I am swaddling her.  I tell her night night and then leave the room.  She is still awake and falls asleep within a couple of minutes.  I am always so amazed that she is asleep so quickly.  The only time Sophia goes down crying is if I miss her sleepy window and put her down when she is too tired.  She pretty much always has a great morning nap and a great late evening nap. She is also still doing great sleeping through the night!
Happy girl getting ready to run errands with Mommy
Social: Sophia loves to smile and she will smile at anyone when they start talking to her.

Diet: She is starting to get very active when she nurses.  Her little arms flails all around and she kicks and kicks her legs.  It's getting more difficult to nurse her in the glider that's in the nursery because she pushes her feet on the arm rest and it hurts! I started giving her a bottle once every two or so days so she is still used to it.  Matt and I are going to a concert on Aug. 3rd and his parents will be watching her, so I want to make sure she is used to them still.  We were using Dr. Brown's bottles, but for some reason when we tried giving them to her again, she kept gagging on the nipple, so I switched to MAM bottles, since that's the paci she takes.  She seems to like those much better and will take about 4.5-5 ozs.

Clothes: She kept having some blowouts, so we moved to a size 2 diaper.  They're a little bit big, but they work a lot better.
Baby Gear Loves: Sleep sheep and halo sleep sacks, pump, activity mat, etc.

Crying:  Just when she's super tired.
Likes: Baths, talking, her activity mat and bouncer.
Post Partum:  Still feeling great!

Summary of weeks 9 and 10

Sophia's ninth week was from June 27 - July 3rd
and her tenth week was from July 4th to July 10th.

**These two weeks were pretty similar and in an effort to get caught up, I will just combine the weekly summary.**

Weight: We went to the Dr. for her two week check up on July 1st and she was 12 lbs and 7 ozs. (88th %ile), 23.8 in. (94 %ile), and 15.43'' for head circumference (64 %ile). I totally got the numbers wrong on the last summary, so I went back and fixed them.

Health: The pedi checked out the back of her head, which was one of my concerns and she said it looked just fine and she wasn't worried about it at all, which was a big relief!

Sleep: Our schedule is still the same as last week and Sophia is still sleeping great at night! She averages about 10 hours.  She goes down around 9:30 for the night and wakes up between 7:00-7:30.  About half of the time, she is still asleep when I go in there, but sometimes she is already awake and just chillin'.  She is a very happy baby when she wakes up. Her naps are definitely getting better and we even had one day where we have perfect naps...she slept through each one and I never once had to go into her room to soothe her back to sleep.  We are starting to have more and more naps that she sleeps all the way through for which is so great!

Social: She is getting so much more fun and her personality is really starting to come out.  We are finding more sounds and faces that make her break out into her huge gummy grin and I am waiting for the day when I hear those giggles!

We celebrated Matt's birthday on July 6th! Originally we were going to go tubing, but the weather interfered with those plans, so we went bowling instead! My mom came down to hang out and watch Sophia.

First time taking a bottle from Grandma!
Diet: Still doing great nursing.
Clothes: We are still in size 1 diapers, but will probably transition to size 2 soon.
Baby Gear Loves: Same as last week- bouncer, activity mat, Medela pump and freezer bags, and multiple burp rags...they are all over the house!

Crying: She wasn't a big crier these two weeks.  I downloaded the Wonder Weeks app and it's been pretty spot on for Sophia.  These two weeks were right after a wonder week for Sophia and the weeks in between, you have a pretty happy baby!  Weeks like these make me think I can handle 8 more babies because it's been pretty easy.  :)  Then a wonder week comes around and I wonder how people with multiple children do it! haha
Likes: Baths, talking, her activity mat and bouncer.
Post Partum:  Still feeling great!

Sophia is TWO months old!

Sophia's eighth week was from June 20- June 26

Weight:  At her 2 month appointment, Sophia was 12 lbs and 7 ozs. (88th %ile), 23.8 in. (94 %ile), and 15.43'' for head circumference (64 %ile)
Health: Doing great! She had her two month shots this week.  I made Matt stay with her while she got them and I waited outside in the waiting room because I am a big sissy.  She was so pitiful all day afterwards.  At one point, I was nursing her and she would randomly cry out...it was awful! We did end up giving her two half doses of Tylenol which seemed to help.  Thank God it only lasted one day.

Sleep:  We have moved to the 3.5 hour schedule this week. I tried it out when she was 6 weeks old, but she wasn't quite ready.  We tried it again this week and have slowly been moving into it.  I added an additional 15 mins to her awake time and an additional 15 mins. to her naps to make up for the extra 30 mins. It took her a couple of days to adjust, but she did it just fine!
7:00- 7:15ish AM- Up for the day, diaper change and eat and play
8:30 AM- 10:30 AM- Nap
10:30 AM- Eat, diaper change and play
12:00 PM-2:00 PM- Nap
2:00 PM- Eat, diaper change, and play
3:30 PM- 5:30 PM -Nap
5:300 PM- Eat, diaper change and play
7:00 PM- 8:30 PM -Nap
8:30 Bath and eat after
9:30 down for the night
Like I wrote in my 7th week summary, on June 19th, Sophia slept through the night from 10:00 until 7:00 am for the first time.  She went back to waking up for her 4:00am feeding the next couple of days and then on June 27th, she did it again and we have been sleeping through the night since! I can't even begin to explain how excited I am...it's amazing to get a full night's sleep again! I am well rested and I know that Sophia is too!
Social: She is starting to babble and coo so much more! She loves listening to you talk and if you are cradling her, she loves watching your mouth and she will try and talk back to you.  She also visited with Emma Grace and Everleigh this week at Everleigh's baptism.

We drove up to Athens to see her and celebrate and was a great little traveler! She took a nap on the way up there, took great 2 hour nap in Everleigh's pack 'n play during her next scheduled nap time, and slept for 2 hours on the way back home.
We also went to a car show this week! She was able to nap in her stroller and we used a clip on fan to keep her cool.

Diet: Still Momma's milk...before we switched her schedule she was nursing for shorter periods of time, but we are back to normal nursing sessions since she dropped one of the feedings.

Baby Gear Loves: Halo swaddles, Pampers Swaddlers size 1, pump and activity mat, loving our stroller and car seat, too!
Crying: We have such a content and happy baby.  We had a few days in the beginning where she was upset and inconsolable and I cannot imagine it being like that all of the time.  My heart goes out to moms that have colicky babies.  I really do think that such a huge part is due to BabyWise.  A friend sent it to me when I was pregnant and I didn't pick it up until after Sophia was born.  I needed some sort of set schedule and I won't lie..the high percentage of BW babies that sleep through the night early was very appealing! Originally, that is what drew me to BW, but now seeing how content she always is and having others notice and comment on it too, I can see the other pluses to doing BW.  I know it catches a lot of flack, but we never had any issues with the things that have caused controversy.  Sophia has been in the 90-95% for height and weight and it hasn't caused any issues with my milk supply.  I never in a million years would have thought that I would be a Babywise Momma, but I am and I LOVE it!
Likes: Her bouncer and activity mat, eating her hands, and listening to Momma and daddy talk!
